Harry Smith's "Early Abstractions w/ Live Score by Peter Stampfel and The Atomic Meta-Pagans!
Thursday, October 3, 2024, 6:15-9pm
@ Portside NewYork, Pier 11, Atlantic Basin, Brooklyn, NY
Mind-bending culture afloat! Join us on the evening of Thursday, October 3rd for a very special screening of Harry Smith's "Early Abstractions" projected on the sail of the sloop Clearwater with a live improvised score by the one and only Peter Stampfel and the Atomic Meta-Pagans.
Last fall, the NYFVC was lucky to be part of a great Harry Smith screening at the Brooklyn Folk Festival and we're thrilled to share the magic again with an encore screening involving two historic ships, the Clearwater, and the Mary Whalen, and live music by Peter Stampfel.
Smith’s ground-breaking early animations will be projected on the sail of the Clearwater with the audience seated on the deck of the Mary A. Whalen. Improvised live score by Peter Stampfel (Holy Modal Rounders, The Fugs).
Deck tours of the ships from 6:15 on, the screening at 7:30, and after the screening, a brief Q&A, and another round of music by Stampfel and friends on the deck of the Mary A. Whalen.
Space is limited so we suggest registering early here
